Around 80 percent of today’s mobile traffic originates or terminates in a building1. With office workers increasingly depending on mobile communications in their day-to-day business, it’s no surprise that enterprises demand a high standard of service. Some 87 percent of respondents to a recent survey1 agreed that it was imperative to have in-building cellular coverage in all areas of the building.

Poor indoor coverage has the potential to discourage Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) from using an operator’s services, whereas good coverage can improve revenue from this important sector.

The building industry’s push for higher energy efficiency means that better insulation of walls and windows can significantly attenuate radio signals from macrocell base stations, making it increasingly difficult to deliver good outdoor-in coverage.
