2022 Trends to Watch Asia
5G standalone launches will drive enterprise use cases in Asia
- In 2022, 5G developments will be the dominant theme for service providers in Asia. As of October 2021, 11 out of 17 of Omdia’s tier 1 and tier 2 markets in Asia—South Korea, Australia, mainland China, New Zealand, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines, Singapore, and Indonesia—have launched 5G mobile commercial services. By the end of 2022, Omdia expects that more markets, such as Malaysia and India, will launch 5G.
- Moreover, as more and more markets in Asia gradually commercialize 5G standalone (SA) service, 5G is expected to better support enterprises’ solutions with its technology specialties. Omdia expects more service providers in Asia will launch 5G SA service in 2022.
- 5G commercial services and the economic recovery from COVID-19, such as the return of tourism, are two main factors that will contribute to the growth of mobile service revenue in Asian markets.
