External locations have long suffered from a sort of benign neglect when it comes to IT. With little to no IT staff on site, they are often not prioritized, getting attention only when something is seriously wrong. It’s an out of sight, out of mind mentality.
But as companies increasingly adopt digital technologies, such an approach is no longer acceptable from a data loss risk perspective. ROBO environments handle mission-critical data just like the rest of the organization, and that data must be treated as such. Failure to do so will leave the business vulnerable to data loss, whether from simple employee errors or malicious attacks such as ransomware and other security threats, especially if ROBO data is not properly maintained.
